THE STORY

Pete and his best friend Calvin are about to live their dream: being the boss of their own school. Just days away from opening APEX Charter High School in Los Angeles, the Art Teacher quits. Pete schemes to leave Nicole, his soon-to-be ex-wife, no option but to become his Art teacher. When Pete’s scheme has unexpected consequences, he must make a deal with the devil herself to save Nicole’s career and convince her to work at APEX so he can try to win her back. But he must also battle his alcoholism, a termite problem at the school, and Nicole’s pregnant sister who knows just how to push Pete’s buttons. When the school sign is misspelled, Pete wonders if everything will come crumbling to the ground before the school even opens.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?

This Kickstarter campaign will fund the production of the sitcom pilot "A Special Education.” Written and created by Alexa Darrin, and directed by Mark LaFleur. We plan to launch this as a web series, as well as pitch it cable and network television.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

The funding from Kickstarter will allow us to shoot the pilot episode of the series. We are passionate about bringing this project to life, and have recruited a fabulous team of dedicated and experienced young professionals with a thirst to prove themselves and create a show unlike any other sitcom on television today. We have also assembled an incredibly talented cast. We have secured all the cameras and equipment we need, and will be shooting on the incredibly sexy Alexa camera that happens to share its name with our equally sexy Producer.

Our team has determined that $10,000 is the amount we need to make the pilot, while maintaining the level of production quality that the story deserves. We have secured some funding, but we still need your help! The more money raised, the better the pilot episode of "A Special Education" will be -- and the more likely episode two will be made (trust us, you'll be begging for the second).

Your generous donation would help in the following ways:

• PRODUCTION DESIGN. We need to bring the world of the script to life. That means bringing in props and furniture to flesh out the environments, and fashioning the right clothes for our cast.

• LOCATION FEES. Finding the right locations will be critical to realizing the look of the film. In addition to shooting permits, we may need to rent a space, hire security, and pay for insurance.

• CATERING. We’d like to keep our crew hydrated and well nourished. They’ll be busting their butts putting their time and effort into this film - the least we can do is provide sandwiches and snacks.

WHAT’S THE TIMELINE FOR THIS PROJECT?

Right now we're in pre-production. We're going to be working throughout the duration of the Kickstarter campaign-- scouting locations, casting, storyboarding, and doing camera tests. Our shoot dates are locked for April 16th-April 25th 2011, and postproduction will likely take us into June of 2011.

Kickstarter is an awesome resource for artists such as ourselves to raise money for great projects like this one! You can pledge as little or as much as you would like, and in return we offer great incentives, as well as our love and gratitude.

Please be aware that you will only be charged for your pledge amount if we meet our minimum goal of $2,000. But we can use much more than that, so don’t hesitate to keep the donations from rolling in.

Also, there is no maximum donation amount, so the more you give, the more we will put into this project. No trips to Vegas! It will all go to making this film the very best it can be.
